Gloria woke up feeling tired and hungry, but before she could eat ; she decided to have her bath ….as she stepped in, she remembered that she was to self examine her breasts for any changes in size , touch or any form of lump in the breast.

Daily self examination of your breasts is an effective way to determine if there are changes to your breast such as size, shape and also the nipple.

 

Signs to look for while examining your breast

  •  Lump in the breast or underarm (armpit).
  • Thickening or swelling of part of the breast.
  • Irritation or dimpling of breast skin.
  • Redness or flaky skin in the nipple area or the breast.
  • Pulling in of the nipple or pain in the nipple area.

Some tips you need to know about breast cancer are;

  • Breast cancer doesn’t always come in the form of a lump.
  • Having a male relative who’s had breast cancer increases your chances.
  • Maintaining a healthy weight can reduce your breast cancer risk.
  • You don’t need to learn how to do a self-exam.
  • Breast cancer is more common than you realize.
  • Ethnicity plays a role.
  • It can be more than a lump.
  • Symptoms can be outside the breast.
  • Family history isn’t the only risk factor.

Cancer tumor is not visible to the eye and can be detected using a mammogram.

Early detection reduces the risk of breast cancer, seek medical advice for more information and screening.
